William Gedney, Hippies at Home, San Francisco 1966-67

This gown was once owned by the inimitable Theda Bara- it really doesn't get more spectacular than this. Only a star could be worthy of such a gown!

Probably the most perfect vanity ever.

A much longer post on her to follow.

It doesn't get any prettier than this dress, a collaboration between Claire McCardell and Marc Chagall. Is it awful that I'm planning on copying this for myself when I have some time off in January? Obviously I won't have any Chagall designed fabric, so it will only be a vague approximation- I just adore the whole look.

One of my favourite things about my job is that I get to sort through and scan original photographs, notebooks and sketches like this one that I scanned yesterday. The look and feel of the paper, the faded handwritten notes on the back- research doesn't get much better...

By far my favourite deck, the Aquarian Tarot by David Palladini.

If anyone ever finds this dress please, please, please get it for me- my love knows no bounds!

Anyone want to go to Margate or Rye over Christmas?

Even though grilled cheese sandwiches are off limits for me I've always loved this photo. Whenever I see poorly staged and taken food photos on the web I think of this photo, and the other photographs of meals in Uncommon Places- probably a rather unfair comparison as no blogger is frequenting diners with an 8 x 10. Totally commonplace, everything in this photo is not unique but when lit with such a soft glow the effect is rather soothing and comforting. This must be, in part, why I keep coming back to this image regardless of my allergies.

Perfection from head to toe.
